Feisty Female Friday: Kristin Welker
The FFF this week is Kristin Welker.
Kristen is an American television journalist working for NBC News. She serves as a White House correspondent based in DC and served as co-anchor of Weekend Today, the Saturday edition of Today, with Peter Alexander. She took over hosting duties for the longest-running program in American television history, Meet The Press.
After college, she interned for the TV program Today has worked at ANC affiliates, and joined NBC in Philadelphia, where she was a reporter and weekend anchor. She then joined NBC News as a correspondent based at the West Coast Headquarters in CA and became an NBC White House Correspondent. Kristen regularly represented MSNBC at the daily White House press briefings and often reported live for events and, occasionally filled in on NBC Nightly News and Today soon becoming the regular co-anchor of Weekend Today with Peter Alexander.
She hosted the final debate in the 2020 presidential election. Kristen succeeded Chuck Todd as anchor of the Sunday morning program Meet the Press and its weekday spin-off Meet the Press Now. On her debut show as host, she interviewed former U.S President Donald Trump about the 2020 election results and co-moderated the third 2024 GOP primary debate in FL. Even when attacked by the other Presidential candidates, she grinned, ignored the attack, and moved on.
Kristen’s two interviews with former and now President Trump both ended with Donald him leaving the interview after she challenged him about the US Constitution and over challenges to his claims against election rigging in the 2020 Election and the 2026 CA Primary Elections.She always listens carefully, does extensive research before interviews, asks challenging questions, always tried to be fair and to educate the public about the person that she is interviewing.
She was named among Glamour's "Women of the Year" for breaking barriers in broadcast journalism and has won a National Emmy Award for her broadcasting work. Kristen is well known for her command and poised “never getting ruffled” moderation
She supports RESOLVE, serving as a host for their annual Night of Hope gala, sharing her own experiences becoming a mother through surrogacy.
She is married, has two children, and lives in DC.
