Feisty Female Friday: Katie Phang

The FFF this week is Katie Phang.

Katie is an American trial attorney, legal commentator, podcaster, independent journalist, and television host. She is widely known for her legal analysis and for hosting The Katie Phang Show on MSNBC and Peacock.

Katie was born in FL after her father emigrated to the US from South Korea. She graduated from Yale, received her law degree a from the University of Miami School of Law, and worked for the state attorney's office in Miami-Dade County. Katie tried serious felony and capital homicide cases and founded her own law firm in Florida, specializing in commercial litigation, family law, criminal defense, and crisis management.

She worked for a FL television station as a legal consultant covering the trial of Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, and the Terri Schiavo case. Katie built a media career with NBC News and MSNBC, before launching her own national discussion program covering the intersection of law, politics, and culture. She has also a fill-in host on MSNBC's Chris Hayes, Ari Melber and Lawrence O'Donnell and has just been named a permanent MSNOW contributor. She recently filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Columbia against Todd Blanche and the Justice Department, accusing him of violating the Epstein Files Transparency Act by not releasing the unredacted Epstein files. In June, the Judge ruled that the Trump administration likely violated the law and was required to unredact all additional documents from the Epstein files or explain why they should not be unredacted by July 2. She and feisty women everywhere await the release of the files and prosecution of those named in the files.

Katie is always known for demanding accountability, protecting the vulnerable, cutting through the noise, and for finding her voice to do things for those who need a voice. She supports the HRC, The Pride Center, Girl Scouts, civil rights groups, community advocacy groups, and Virginia Giuffre’s SOAR project. She signs off all her programs and podcasts with the words, “Straight, no chaser,” words that describe her forthright and honest manner in her efforts to get the truth out for benefit of all.

She and her husband live in FL and have a daughter.
