Feisty Female Friday: Halle Berry

The FFF this week is Halle Berry.

Halle was born and raised in Ohio and first came into the spotlight at age 17 when she won the Miss Teen All-American Pageant, was the first runner-up in the Miss U.S.A. Pageant, and represented the US in the Miss World competition.

She soon moved to NY to pursue acting. Her first film credits were in a small roles in Jungle Fever, Strictly Business, Boomerang, Queen, and in tThe Flintstones. Halle also appeared in Losing Isaiah, Race the Sun, and in Executive Decision. Next came roles in BAPS, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, X-Men, and Monster’s Ball. She starred in Die Another Day, Catwoman, and in the ABC television film, Their Eyes Were Watching God.

She served as an executive producer in Lackawanna Blues, was the voice for the character, Cappy, in the animated feature Robots. Halle also appeared in Frankie and Alice, Movie 43, in the Extant series, Kevin Hart: What Now?, Kidnap, The Monster’s Ball, Kingsman, and in the John Wick series, Boomerang, and in the crime thriller film Crime 101. Halle made her directorial debut with the movie Bruised.

Halle is known for her action roles, was ranked No. 1 on People’s Magazine "50 Most Beautiful People in the World,” and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress, the first African American woman to win the award. She has also won the Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year, Primetime Emmy, SAG, BET, Golden Globe, Silver Bear, and NAACP Image Awards, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Her life outside of film includes climate change and environmental causes, women’s rights and health, education, and social justice initiatives.
