Feisty Female Friday: Alyson Stroker

The FFF this week is Alyson Stroker.

Ali is an American actress, author, and singer who grew up in NJ. She was injured in a car accident as a child which resulted in a spinal  cord injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down. She uses a wheelchair, starred in school musicals, and was the senior class president.

Ali trained at the Paper Mill Play House  in NJ and graduated from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She has given solo performances at the Kennedy Center, NY Town Hall, Lincoln Center, and Paper Mill Playhouse. She was cast in The Glee Project, Cotton, MTV seriesFaking It, made history by becoming the first actor who used a wheelchair while appearing on the Broadway stage. Ali had a role in the revival of Spring Awakening along with deaf actors who performed in sign language. She also played Ado Annie in Oklahoma! which earned her a Tony Award, making her the first person with a disability to be nominated for and to receive that award. Ali has also appeared in Lifetime Channel movies, Blue Bloods, and Only Murders In The Building series. She was a finalist on the second season of The Glee project and appeared as a guest star on Glee. Ali has performed in Spring Awakening and sang the National Anthem during the 2024 Summer ParaOlympics Closing Ceremony.

Ali co-chairs Women Who Care, is a founding member of Be More Heroic, works with the ARTS InsideOut program, and is a co-founding director of the ATTENTION Theatre program.

Ali, her husband, and son live in a specially designed home for them in NY and advocates for more homes to be also designed and built for people with disabilities.
