Dear Elizabeth,

I recently was verbally accosted by a man about my wearing a mask. His comments were rude, condescending, and totally inappropriate. Why are some people so crazy about those of us who need to wear a mask?

Dear Masked in Merced,

I always wear a mask especially after some recent health challenges. My encounters with people like this are rare but still totally uncalled for. I simply let them speak but then remind them that wearing a mask is my choice. I do it to protect myself and thank them for their concern. I end the conversations with a request to stay in their home if I contract COVID. That usually ends any further communication. The look on their face is priceless. Always do what is best for you in all situations.
