Feisty Female Friday: Diane Keaton

The FFF this week is Diane Keaton.

Diane Keaton Hall was an American actress whose career spanned more than six decades. She was born in CA and started acting in high school performances. Diane moved to NY, began studying acting there, starting her career on stage, acting in the original Broadway production of the musical Hair and in the Woody Allen's comic play Play It Again, Sam. Diane had her first major film role in The Godfather and in continued to act its sequels. She frequently collaborated with Woody Allen as a comic actress and starred in the ever popular film, Annie Hall.

She also starred in Reds, Marvin’s Room, Something's Gotta Give, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Interiors, Shoot the Moon, Crimes of the Heart, Murder in Manhattan, Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, The Family Stone, Finding Dory, Book Club, Something’s Gotta Give, Finding Nemo, Poms, and Father of the Bride Part 3(ish).

On television, she appeared in commercials and television guest roles, portrayed Amelia Earhart in a film based on her life, and had a role in The Young Pope series. Diane also served as a producer on films and television movies, was a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post, the face of L'Oréal, and was active in campaigns with the LA Conservancy to save and restore historic buildings. She was a real estate developer, fashion icon, avid photographer publishing a collection of photos of hotel interiors, and published her memoir, Then Again.

Diane was known for her versatility, consistently reinventing and challenging herself in her acting roles. Her accolades include an AFI Life Achievement, Academy, BAFTA, and two Golden Globe Awards. She was honored with a Film Society of Lincoln Center's Gala Tribute, National Headliner Awards, and a Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism.

In her fifties, Diane adopted two children, a daughter and a son, saying that motherhood had completely changed her and made her a better person.

Diane lived with her children in LA and recently died. We will miss her accessibility, charming personality, fashion sense, and wry sense of humor.
